Standard House

client: Charles Taylor Consulting
engineer: Mary Claxton (Project Engineer)
status: Completed
value: £5.3m

Standard House is a seven storey office building in central London.

Our Client, owning and occupying the building, wished to maximise the building’s floor area and create an open plan working environment for around 220 of their staff.

This resulted in a project including demolition of the central stair core and infilling of the central lightwell with a new seven storey frame.  Two additional storeys were also added to part of the original building and a new mansard roof was constructed over the whole building, creating a total of 33,000 sq ft of office accommodation.

We were appointed to provide full Structural Engineering services for the duration of the project.

The project presented us with a number of challenges, due to the site’s location and constraints.  We worked closely with the client and design team from an early stage to develop the structural solution for each of the project elements.
